A three-member committee has been formed to investigate allegations of corruption against State Transport Minister Anil Parab and others, ANI reported.
Nashik Police Commissioner Deepak Pandey ordered an investigation into allegations of corruption in transfers and assignments against Maharashtra Minister of Transport Anil Parab and six officers over the complaint of a motor vehicle inspector suspended from the Nashik Regional Transportation Bureau (RTO), an official said on Saturday. .
In his complaint, suspended officer Gajendra Patil mentioned corruption to the tune of several crores in
transfers and assignments to the RTO department, he said.
Meanwhile, Parab, a senior Shiv Sena official, said the complaint against him, the state transport commissioner and five other officers is baseless, politically motivated and aimed at defaming the government of Maha Vikas Aghadi. (MVA).
The complaint was filed by Patil, who is posted to
Nashik RTO, via email, sent to Panchvati Police Station at
Nashik on May 16. He also visited the police station on May 17, the official said.
In his complaint, Patil also alleged corruption at border checkpoints; settlement of cases against some private operators and illegal registration of BS-4 vehicles, he said.
Patil appointed State Transport Minister Anil Parab and six senior RTO officials for their alleged role in transfers and assignments of RTO officials, he said.
Panchvati police called the complainant to record his
declaration and submit documents, but he did not cooperate
the probe, the official said.
“Given the seriousness of the complaint, it was not justifiable to disregard it. As a result, Nashik Police Commissioner Deepak Pandey ordered an investigation
by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) on
complaint, “he said.
Pandey ordered DCP to submit investigation
report in the next five days, he said.
DCP Zone 1 and DCP Zone 2 will assist the DCP (crime) with required manpower and other requirements, the official said citing orders from the CP.
He said, if necessary, the investigation team may take a few more days to complete the investigation.
Controversial Mumbai policeman Sachin Waze, now sacked, last month alleged in a letter he sought to submit to a court that in January 2021 Anil Parab asked him to investigate the “fraudulent” contractors listed in Mumbai. civic body and collect at least Rs 2 crore from around 50 of these entrepreneurs.
Parab had rejected Waze’s claims and said he was ready to face any investigation into the allegations.
The Shiv Sena heads the Maha Vikas Aghadi government of which the PCN and Congress are the two other constituents.
The State Department of the Interior is headed by the Nationalist
Dilip Walse Patil of the Congress Party (NCP).
In a tweet, Parab said suspended officer Gajendra Patil acted out of spite to defame the image of him (the minister) and the MVA government after he was suspended following numerous complaints received from the Department of State transport.
The minister also alleged a “conspiracy” behind the complaint.
He tweeted that the complaint against him, the transport commissioner and five other officers at the Panchvati police station was baseless, false and politically motivated.
“The complaint is filed with a political motive in which (the complainant) tries to project that the state government can do nothing against such ministers, and then requests an investigation by the CBI through the High Court, ”he tweeted.
“Nashik police are investigating the complaint and the truth will come out to the public,” the minister said in another tweet.
Notably, senior NCP leader Anil Deshmukh resigned in April, days after former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh wrote a letter to Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, claiming that the Home Secretary at the time had set a monthly target of collecting Rs 100 crore in bars and hotels in Mumbai from some policemen and moved the high court.
The HC then ordered an investigation by the CBI which registered a complaint against Deshmukh and carried out searches in various places.
