Alabama Department of Transportation wants your opinion on the South Huntsville project
HUNTSVILLE, Alabama – The Alabama Department of Transportation is preparing to launch a new project in Huntsville – and they’re asking for your advice before they begin.
The project is scheduled to begin near South Memorial Drive on Weatherly Road. It would then travel about 2.5 miles and end at Veteran’s Drive.
ALDOT officials say the main aim of the project is to improve traffic flow and safety. They say the base plan already includes things like improvements to turning the tracks and repaving, with the overall goal of streamlining the corridor – but they want to hear from those who roam the area daily to find out exactly what it needs. .
Before the pandemic, public consultation sessions were held in person, but since then they have moved online. One official says these comments have the potential to have a big impact on next planning steps.
Funding for the project comes from a joint funding agreement of $ 125 million for projects entered into between the City of Huntsville and the State.
However, the cost of this specific project depends on the public feedback that ALDOT chooses to pursue with their improvements.
Public comments are open until November 1.
