Watch a Northeast Florida girls track competition for a long time in 2021, and the pattern was often the same.

A blur of blue, with a touch of orange, returns once again to the podium.

The overall quality propelled Bolles to the Florida High School Athletic Association State Championship in May for Class 2A, highlighting Northeast Florida’s season in women’s track and field.

So it’s no surprise that the Bulldogs, who won their fourth FHSAA tag team title in eight seasons, find themselves across the Times-Union All-First Coast squad, recognizing top high school sports for the 2020 season. -21.

Athletes from Jacksonville and Northeast Florida have won two individual titles and three relay championships, including a combined clean sweep in Class 2A from Bolles and Paxon.

Above the competition throughout the season, Audrey Wuerffel, senior of Bolles, concluded the season not only as the Class 2A Women’s Pole Vault Champion, but also as the highest ranked pole vaulter in the Florida in all classifications.

Signed with South Florida, she continued Bolles’ growing tradition in the event and climbed 12 feet 9 1/2 inches in the district final. She is the Bulldogs’ third pole vault champion in the past four seasons, following Laine Roberts in 2018 and 2019.

As usual, Bolles also placed high in numerous distance races, from second place for Leila Bata at 800 meters to first four times for Maxine Montoya and Maddie Popp in the 1600 and 3200.

Meanwhile, Palatka’s Torryence Poole found the perfect time for a new personal best, winning the Class 2A women’s shot put with an effort of 42 feet, 2 1/4 inches.

The two individual champions were the fewest in Northeast Florida since 2013, but runners in the region have combined for three relay championships.

The Paxon Golden Eagles have soared all around the track, from fourth place Adriel Strickland in the 400 to a pair of Class 2A titles in 4×100 and 4×400.

A host of contenders from Northeast Florida made their presence felt around the podium.

Creekside junior Sydney Campbell has recorded the region’s best women’s sprint times this season, continuing the Knights’ distinguished legacy of Southern California signatory Makhaila Mills.

Oakleaf’s Arianna Eason and Ridgeview’s Zoe Whaley were in the region’s top five in jumps, while the throws showcased the strength of the region’s many contenders.

In addition to Poole’s 2A shot put, the area produced many top five pitchers: Qua’liyyah Taylor of Bartram Trail, Katie White of Bishop Kenny, Alicia Horton of Bishop Snyder, Layne Rivera of Bolles, Emma Richard of Fleming Island, Damoni Kelly and Aliyah Robertson from Mandarin. .

As with the other All-First Coast Awards, the top spring sports winners will be announced at this summer’s Greater Jacksonville High School Sports Awards presentation.
