Cadillac gets back on track with the rout of Alpena | Sports
ALPENA – Adversity is nothing new in football.
Cadillac took that and a three-hour bus ride in stride by beating Alpena 37-6 in a Big North Conference football contest on Friday night.
The victory puts the Vikings back on track to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the Far North.
Cadillac was without three key senior starters against the Wildcats, but that didn’t hamper the effort.
“The kids did a good job overcoming adversity,” said Cadillac coach Cody Mallory. “We had a handful of starters and our guys did a really good job filling those gaps and performing at a high level. “
Cadillac led 15-0 after the first quarter and 25-6 at halftime before taking a 37-6 lead in the fourth.
“The kids played well,” Mallory added. We played very good defense and forced a few turnovers.
The Vikings limited Alpena to just 160 yards of total attack while amassing 377 yards, including 304 on the ground.
Kaleb McKinley led the way with 69 yards and one touchdown on 14 carries while Chris Reinhold had 60 yards and two touchdowns in five carries.
Collin Johnston added 36 yards and a touchdown in five carries.
Charlie Howell was 3 of 3 passes for 73 yards and a touchdown as well. Caden Windover caught a 39-yard touchdown pass.
Teegan Baker punctuated the defense with eight tackles and one fumble while Reinhold and Johnston each had seven tackles.
Jakin Metzger, Derek Rood and Trenton Dennis each have six, while Windover and Carter Harsh have each had interceptions.
