Displaced events, postponed to Spartan Stadium in Hempfield after rain delayed track replacement
Several events at Spartan Stadium in Hempfield Area have been changed or postponed this season after the track resurfacing was delayed due to bad weather.
The $ 832,500 project, including the resurfacing, was approved by the school board in April and is expected to be completed before the fall athletic season.
However, the installation has been delayed as rain moved across the region this summer, including the remnants of Hurricane Ida which dropped several inches of rain this month.
“We still hope the stadium will be completed next week,” said Brandon Rapp, Hempfield’s sporting director. “The biggest problem is that we can’t spray adhesive on the track in the rain. That’s why it’s such a smooth process.
The delay has resulted in sports teams playing away games for the first half of the season. Rapp noted that home games are expected to be played in the second half.
Group party scheduled for October 2
The Hempfield Area Band Festival originally scheduled for this weekend has been postponed and rescheduled for October 2, having originally been scheduled for this weekend.
The installation of the new stadium track is entering its final stages and “the sensitive nature of this process cannot have interruptions or activity nearby”, a message on the neighborhood website bed.
Hempfield Area Spartan Band officials said they had not encountered any major issues with the date change.
“The district has worked very well with us,” said Rob Bojarski, president of the Hempfield Area Band Parents Association. “They have done everything possible to reduce the impacts. “
Nine groups are expected to perform their half-time shows at the festival, which was canceled last year due to the covid-19 pandemic. Concession stands will be open and a bake sale is planned. A raffle with 25 baskets is also planned.
Bojarski said social distancing will be encouraged, adding that festival organizers are following school guidelines regarding covid-19 mitigation policies.
The stadium gates will open at 5.30 p.m. Performances will start at 7 p.m.
