Galesburg boys’ track competes in section
GENESEO – The Galesburg High School boys’ track team did not win the Geneseo class 2A section team title on Wednesday night.
But Silver Streaks will compete in three events at the state meet on Friday, June 18 at Eastern Illinois University.
Freshman Plamedi Nseka, junior Adrian Outlaw and seniors Alex Buchen and Alex Harvey joined forces for Galesburg’s 4×4 meter relay team, and they won the section title in the event with a time of 3: 27.76.
Nseka placed second in the 400 meters in 50.84 seconds behind senior Kewanee Melcon DeJesus (50.79) to punch a ticket to declare in the event.
Kevyere Mack, senior of Peoria Richwoods, won the 300-meter hurdles in 38.74 and Harvey clocked a 40.85, which placed him in second place and secured his ticket to the event on the EIU blue running surface.
The Streaks finished in fourth place as a unit with 60 points. Princeton won the section with 112.5 points. Pontiac finished with 83 points and took second place while Geneseo finished just ahead of Galesburg with 63.5 points. Monmouth-Roseville scored 23 points and finished in 10th place with no Titan coming forward to declare.
