North Dakota Department of Transportation develops freight and rail plan
BISMARCK, North Dakota – The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) is developing the State Freight & Rail Plan (SFRP) and has launched the project website. This plan will assess all modes of transport, identify needs and problems, provide recommendations, guide the advancement of the multimodal transport system and serve as a roadmap for future investments.
The state’s freight and railroad plans will be developed for the first time as a single plan to create a holistic view of the movement of goods in, through and out of the state.
The website includes information and education on the different modes of transportation in North Dakota, an online open house, as well as an interactive map where users can leave comments on highways, railroads or routes. particular intersections in North Dakota.
NDDOT will use online engagement opportunities, surveys, videos, social media and face-to-face conversations to gather information and help shape the future of multimodal freight systems in North Dakota.
The general public can participate in a self-guided virtual meeting until September 30, 2021. This meeting is accessible through the project website at www.dot.nd.gov/projects/frp/.
NDDOT will conduct public and stakeholder outreach activities throughout the next year and a half, with the final plan produced at the end of 2022.
