Adena offers physical sports and wellness exams

CHILLICOTHE– As many parents and young athletes know, it is a standard requirement to have a sporty physique before starting any new school sports season. Whether your student is in elementary school or university, sports physical exams are necessary to reduce sports-related injuries, uncover underlying health issues, and help prevent any existing conditions that could lead to physical problems. serious or even fatal.

To help student-athletes and parents, Adena provides hands-on opportunities for sports and wellness physical exams through Adena Pediatrics and Adena Family Medicine and sports physical exams are also available at Adena Emergency Care Centers. If a child has to take an annual wellness exam, a sports physical exam can be included at the same time at all of Adena’s family medicine and pediatric facilities. Most insurance will even cover this in one wellness visit, at no cost to you.

Getting a sporty physique helps establish a baseline for young athletes. As students age, their bodies change. Recognizing or becoming aware of potential problems early, such as changes in metabolism, pain due to bone growth or joints, may allow Adena’s doctors to take preventive measures. Young athletes, knowing that they may have a problem, weakness or tenderness, can train to help overcome or avoid certain physical conditions.

Adena’s sports physical exams are comprehensive exams, not just basic screenings. Patients will be seen by a physician or advanced practice provider specially trained in the assessment techniques used in these exams, such as:

  • Complete history and physical examination
  • Discussion of the child’s weight, height and body mass index
  • Nutrition, sleep patterns, physical development and activity
  • Health and safety risks, as well as preventive health recommendations
  • State of chronic diseases
  • Immunization updates

It is also possible to discuss important issues such as avoidance of drugs, tobacco and alcohol. This helps to develop an open and trusting relationship with parents and patients so that they can turn to their provider with questions or concerns when needed.
