RAPID CITY, SD– Getting to and from Rapid City Regional Airport could soon become more expensive.

The board of directors proposed new charges for ground transportation. It would include fees of $ 200 for transport companies, $ 2 for vehicles carrying one to eight people, and $ 4 for vehicles that can accommodate nine to 15 people.

An increase in short-term parking, from $ 1 to $ 2 per half hour, would also be included.

“So if you have a Lyft that will take you to the facility or a cab or a shuttle, these items are the items that would be valued at those costs,” explained Patrick Dame, executive director of Rapid City Regional Airport. “As part of their business activities they run to make money, based on their business here at the airport.”

With any fee increases, the money earned will go directly to the airport.

“We have a lot of partnerships with things like car rental companies, parking lots, restaurants. All of these parts help pay for the operating costs of the airport, ”Dame said. “So, with this change, it allows us, on the ground transport side, to be able to introduce ground transport costs to be able to help us in the development of the non-air side. Or the development of infrastructure linked to the land.

The plan is submitted to the airport’s board of directors later this month, then to the legal and finance committee and joint council.
