Rising prices and manufacturing activity to boost US transportation equipment shipments
Supply chain issues, fuel costs will weigh on shipments in the near term
CLEVELAND, August 3, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Transportation equipment shipments from U.S. facilities are expected to grow 6.4% annually in nominal terms through 2026, according to Transport equipment: United States, a report recently published by Freedonia Focus Reports. In inflation-adjusted terms, shipments are expected to grow by 4.1% per year through 2026. Gains will be driven by price growth and increased domestic demand for transportation services. Rising manufacturing activity and personal disposable income levels will drive freight and passenger transportation demand and deliveries. However, supply chain issues resulting from pandemic-induced disruptions will persist. Higher fuel prices also lead to higher transport costs, contributing to transport equipment price inflation.
Shipments of motor vehicles and parts from facilities in the United States, the dominant product segment, are expected to grow 6.1% per year through 2026. Progress of 4.1% per year is expected in real terms. After a sharp decline in motor vehicle and spare parts shipments in 2020, shipments started to recover in 2021, but were held back by a shortage of semiconductor devices. While the shortage is expected to continue through 2022, manufacturers are already moving towards securing more robust supply chains for semiconductor devices.
This and other key information is presented in Transport equipment: United States. This report forecasts 2022 and 2026 U.S. transportation equipment shipments in nominal and real (inflation-adjusted) U.S. dollars at the manufacturer level. Total shipments in nominal and real terms are segmented by product in terms of:

- other products such as motorcycles, military armored vehicles and all-terrain vehicles
To illustrate historical trends, total shipments, different segments and trade are provided in annual series from 2011 to 2021.
