T Line restarts service as expansion continues on track
After construction of the Hilltop Tacoma Link Extension interrupted T-line service between the Tacoma Dome and Commerce Street Station on July 31, train service officially restarted on Tuesday.
Officials say service will operate as usual between Tacoma Dome and Commerce Street Station for the remainder of the construction project.
Local businesses suffer as Tacoma Link extension construction drags on
“Crews continue to work on the Hilltop Tacoma Link Extension with construction activities around the clock and overnight. This work includes out-of-service train testing and rail grinding,” according to the Sound Transit Update released yesterday.
Trains run every 12 minutes on weekdays and on Saturdays for most of the day, with trains running every 24 minutes in the early morning before 6.30am and late evening after 8.00pm. They run every 24 minutes all day Sunday.
The construction entails the expansion of six new link rail stations, more than doubling the length of tracks in Tacoma, and is expected to begin service next year. The new stations will serve major and popular destinations such as the Stadium District, Wright Park and major medical facilities before reaching the new Hilltop District terminus.
The next major construction closure will close MLK Jr. Way at S. 14th, Earnest S Brazil and S 10th streets while crews install drainage infrastructure. Still, construction is expected to take only six days and will be completed before the end of October.
