Track and field concludes competition in NCAA West prelims
COLLEGE STATION – Graduated student Desiree Buerge finished 22sd in the discus and freshman Tamara Woodley finished 24e in the 400-meter as the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) track team wrapped up competition in the NCAA West prelims on Saturday at Texas A&M’s EB Cushing Stadium.
Buerge finished 22sd out of 48 on the discus with a throw of 51.83 meters, the ninth best score in program history. She hit this mark on her second attempt while fouling on her first and third attempts.
Program record holder in disc, Buerge ranks 52ndsd in the world, 10e among Americans and seventh in Division I of the NCAA. She will compete in the discus at the US Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore. On June 18-19.
Woodley finished 24e out of 24 in the quarterfinals of the 400 meters with a time of 54.41, the eighth fastest time in program history.
