Visually impaired academics urge Buzdar to provide stipends and facilities

Islamabad: President of the Association of Blind Teachers and Conferences of the Punjab (PBPLA) Professor Mohammad Tahir asked the Chief Minister of the Punjab, Usman Buzdar, to provide professors of different abilities serving in various colleges in the province with their facilities and allowances authorized interrupted by the districts concerned.
In his message for World White Cane Safety Day 2021, which is celebrated annually on October 15, the PBPLA president said that these requests are already being made from time to time to former governments, but that no attention had ever been paid.
Prof Tahir said: “But we expect good gestures from the chief minister because of his good heart and good thinking regarding people with disabilities.” He informed that the sum for the special transport allowance was very insufficient at the current age, that he was asked to increase to Rs 10,000, compared to his current rate of RS 2000, so that the physically disabled can benefit in a relatively safer way of transport to approach their places of work.
The PBPLA chairman said all of these demands were raised in the written demand to the chief minister. He noted that all employees working in the special education department received a special allowance equal to the full base salary.
“Even the normal people working in this department have also been blessed with this allowance despite the fact that these normal employees don’t really deserve it,” he said.
Professor Tahir regretted that, on the contrary, employees with disabilities face much greater challenges and problems while working in general education.
“CM has also been asked to increase the existing special allowance to the level of the full base salary for all teachers and lecturers with disabilities. However, it should be mentioned here that there are very few of us, so this increase will not weigh heavily on the public treasury, ”he stressed.
In addition, he said that the CM was also asked to issue an order for the granting of (protection of remuneration), including the consideration of the service under a contract, as regular service. as a special case, only for teachers and lecturers with disabilities, working in the department of higher education. , which have been selected by the PPSC on a contract basis and have been regularized from time to time, in previous years.
Professor Tahir informed that CM Punjab has also been requested to lead the relevant quarters for the allocation of official residence to employees with disabilities on a priority basis as well as the provision of laptops as they had to rely almost exclusively on IT and IT procedures, in particular with regard to the digitization and reading of books and other reading materials.
While working out the demands, he said the Association also urged the CM to provide interest-free home, auto and flexible loans as they had no way of making money from part-time work, so that they can afford to meet the economic challenges.
He added that the CM has also been asked to ensure that the allocation of posts and promotions below 3 percent of the disability quota should be implemented to all audiences.
