When Harry and Meghan met Pete: The Sussexes pictured with the Transport Secretary in the Netherlands
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were pictured beaming next to the US delegation to the Invictus Games on Friday, with the couple posing alongside Joe Biden envoy Pete Buttigieg.
The Transport Secretary and her husband Chasten attended a reception honoring the athletes ahead of the opening ceremony in The Hague.
Buttigieg, like Harry, served in Afghanistan; Buttigieg as a Navy Intelligence Officer in 2014 and Harry as an Army Officer in command of Apache helicopters in 2007-2008 and again in 2012-2013.
He was chosen by Biden to lead a delegation to the games that included Senator Tammy Duckworth, an Army veteran who lost her legs and partial use of her right arm in Iraq in November 2004, and Under Secretary to veterans Donald Remy.
The Invictus Games, founded in 2014, is an international sporting event for wounded, injured and ill service members, whether active duty or veteran.
Prominent US politicians have cheered on Team USA at past events, including Joe and Jill Biden and Barack Obama.
All three met Prince Harry during their stay at his signature event.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are seen arriving at the event in The Hague on Friday
Earlier Friday, Pete and Chasten Buttigieg and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were seen separately walking the yellow carpet for a welcome event hosted by the US Embassy in The Hague.
It’s unclear if any of the Buttigiegs will appear in a documentary with the Sussexes, who had their Netflix camera crew in tow to capture every moment.
The Sussexes only decided to attend the welcome event in the last 48 hours, a source told MailOnline.
The Netflix team stood out from the dozens of photographers covering their arrival.
The cameraman, soundman and producer wore brown colored bibs with numbers to make sure they stood out from other media.

Critics have accused the Sussexes of ‘cashing in’ on the Games by allowing the streaming giant, with whom they signed a $100million deal, in private meetings.
The couple were making their first appearance outside the United States since leaving the royal family in an acrimonious split in 2020.
Before their trip to the Netherlands, they made an incognito stopover in the United Kingdom to visit the Queen.
Meghan wore a shiny white Valentino jacket and trousers with gold jewelry while Harry wore a suit with an open-necked shirt.
The Buttigiegs both wore tieless jackets with American flag pins.
Buttigieg was also seen walking in a parade honoring both teams, in a video posted to Team USA’s official social media accounts.
The game will open on Saturday and will continue until April 22.
